Oscar-winner Heath Ledger
1979 - 2008
So many of us continue to be truly devastated by this incredible loss. Never before have two actors on their way to the top of their game accepted the challenges and potential repercussions of playing gay characters in such honest and revealing roles as Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall did in 'Brokeback Mountain'. And in in the process never before have two actors been so incredibly successful in portraying the true plight that so many in the LGBT community have endured throughout their lives, while bringing that plight to the awareness of mainstream America in such a uniquely beautiful and touching love story. The talents of this gifted actor through this classic motion picture performance and others will continue to be remembered and missed by us all.

During the January 28th, 2008 SAG Awards ceremony, the amazingly gracious, talented and selfless Best Actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis (for 'There Will Be Blood') unexpectedly dedicated his award to Heath Ledger, noting that "His performance in 'Brokeback Mountain' was perfect". Day-Lewis later noted that while he had never actually met Ledger, his death was all that he could think about for the past few days. His dedication speech can be viewed below.

That doesn't even begin to cover his incredible performance in The Dark Knight

And I agree wholeheartedly with BuzzSugar's opinion of The Dark Knight:
Tense, Sad, Unsettling — And One of the Best Movies I've Seen in Years (and not for kids!)

Oscar Buzz ... once again for Heath Ledger ...

This town deserves a better class of criminal." – The Joker

And to those who claim that the posthumous 'Oscar Hype' over Heath Ledger's Joker
performance in "The Dark Knight" is mostly out of sympathy; they obviously were either
heavy on drugs or fell asleep during most of the movie (which would be impossible withot
being very heavy on drugs) ... what an incredible, haunting and daunting characterization.

It was Heath Ledger's brilliant Oscar-nominated performance in 'Brokeback Mountain'
that inspired Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan to obtain him for this role. Visit the
