(1) THANK YOU!
To everyone who performed in and attended both of the free "Dance DC Festival" events on September 30th at Union Station and Eastern Market. What an incredible and fun-filed time we all had, in spite of the fact that things got started a bit late at Union Station. Particular appreciation goes out to performers SonMas Salsa Rueda Dance Troupe, Barb Bernstein's Dance In Time Productions for assisting with the teaching during the open mini-classes, The Dancing Kids' Network who did two performances in both Salsa & Cha Cha and both the student
group and senior performance teams of SAOCO DC
Rueda and Casino Salsa Dance Group of Washington DC. Also a BIG! thanks to Ebany Banks and Correll Kent of the DC Commission of the Arts and Humanities, in addition to the MANY who attended to watch and participate in our "Dancing with the DC Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance DC" mini-dance competitions (as well as those who joined us in learning a segment of "Michael Jackson's Thriller"). Your eager and enthusiastic participation and enthusiasm were "THE" secret ingredient in making both of these events memorable to everyone who attended (and eventually to those who routinely visit YouTube! ... we obtained some GREAT footage for YouTube!....). Thanks to each one of you, I believe our original goal ...to make the 2007 'Dance DC Festival '07' the absolute 'BEST' Dance DC Festival ever was attained in flying colors! If you missed it, be sure to make room for it on your calendar next year...and THANKS AGAIN to all who attended, performed and participated in all of the events. We continue to dance at the Chevy Chase Ballroom every Sunday, so join us!....

I think we have all thought that from time to time. That is why SAOCO is having a workshop on how to dance Casino Style Salsa (one on one). The goal of this workshop is to take your rueda moves and string them together in a way that is innovative, leadable and fun. You won't even need to do a dile que no in between each move!

July 4th, 2007...WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE...FOR ALL?...

WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL...THAT MEANS FOR "EVERYONE"...NOT JUST FOR A SELECT FEW WHOSE INCLUSION OR NOT WILL ULTIMATELY BE DESIGNATED BY THE SAME SELECT FEW. THE TIME IS LONG OVER DUE TO SEND "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL" AND EVERY SIMILAR FORM OF BIGOTRY AND DISCRIMINATION BEING PROMOTED IN THE NAME OF THE BIBLE AND OUR LOVING GOD, DOWN THE SAME PATH AS SLAVERY, SEPARATE DRINKING FOUNTAINS & REST ROOMS, RIDING IN THE BACK OF THE BUS AND MANY OTHER BIGOTED, CONDESCENDING PRACTICES THAT HAVE BLEMISHED THIS COUNTRY'S HISTORY FROM THE ONSET. ALL OF WHICH, BY THE WAY WERE SUPPOSEDLY IN THE PAST JUSTIFIED BY THE BIBLE AND IN THE NAME OF OUR LOVING GOD.
SECOND CLASS CITIZENSHIP FOR THE POOR, FOR WOMEN (WHO ARE INCAPABLE OF PRIESTHOOD AND MANY OTHER HONORS AND RESPONSIBILITIES THAT ONLY MEN ARE CAPABLE OF....? IN SPITE OF THEIR UNLIMITED ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE MOST DIFFICULT JOB ON EARTH, MOTHERHOOD...? WILL SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE LOGIC OF THIS TO ME, PLEASE?...), FOR MANY MINORITIES, FOR THE LGBT COMMUNITY AND MORE.
YES THIS IS UNDOUBTEDLY A GREAT COUNTRY THAT WE LIVE IN, AND I WOULDN'T WANT TO LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE. BUT YES TOO, WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO TO MAKE IT EQUAL AND FAIR FOR EVERYONE OF THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE TO IT'S GREATNESS.....IT'S ALL ABOUT POWER, GREED, SELF-INTEREST AND THE CENTURIES-OLD "DIVIDE-AND-CONQUER" TACTICS OF THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED TO DOMINATE THE REST OF SOCIETY THROUGH RELIGION AND ANY OTHER MEANS AVAILABLE FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT SINCE HISTORY WAS FIRST RECORDED.
WHILE INDEPENDANCE DAY IS AN IMPORTANT TIME TO REFLECT ON OUR INDEPENDENCE, FREEDOMS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN EQUALITY IN AMERICA, IT'S JUST AS IMPORTANT TO REFLECT ON HOW FAR WE STILL HAVE TO GO.
....BUT THEN THAT IS JUST MY OPINION...

But dancing "Thriller" there with a room full of people could be just as fun...).

EXTENDED EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Our objective is to encourage people of all ages, genders, orientations, both singles and couples as well as mixed-gender and same-gender couples, disabled wheel chair dancers and the seeing & hearing-impaired to get more comfortable dancing together in public and to get "Out on the Dance Floor". There will be MANY brand new beginner dancers attending, plus many without dance partners. Consequently for those who have always felt uncomfortable in the dance environment, this is your chance to overcome that with more experienced dance assistance available to everyone in the company of numerous others who are probably of the same level of inexperience.

The evening will include:
(1) Mini-classes throughout in many of the social dances of Ballroom, Latin, Salsa & Rueda, Swing, Tango, Flamenco, Disco/Hustle, Country Two Step and more!...(we might even teach a segment of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to start preparing you early for Halloween). We'll have plenty of dance teachers and experienced assistants available to help everyone with questions about their dancing both during and between instruction. And not to worry if you don't have any previous dance experience or don't have a dance partner. Almost everyone attending will be brand new beginners in one dance or another and we'll be switching partners during the beginner level mini-classes in each chosen dance style.

(2) "Dancing with the DC Stars" Mini dance competitions (www.DancingWithTheDCStars.com) will take place after each mini-class for that dance style in Ballroom Foxtrot, Swing, Country Two Step, Disco/Hustle and Salsa (and maybe a Robo-Cha Cha contest if time permits).
The mini-dance competitions are open to everyone and winners will be chosen by audience applause (so bring your loudest and most obnoxious friends and family members to be on your cheering squad).

(3) Opportunities of awareness in the goals of different charities and non-profits will be available, plus opportunities for those who care to sponsor &/or solicit donations or sponsorships for any charitable organization(s) of choice. :RED HOT BALLROOM" CLASSES FOR THE KIDS.....

for the next youth showcase performance at the Chevy Chase Ballroom and other upcoming DanceSport events in 2007 (including my June 2nd one-of-it's-kind "Out On The Dance Floor Charity Ball", The Yuletide Ball DanceSport Championships over New Year's weekend and possible performances in other local charitable and DanceSport events in the Wasington Metropolitan area. (New 5:30pm Wednesday and Friday "Red Hot Ballroom" classes to learn choreography to the latest musical phenomenon of the Silver Screen, "Dreamgirls", in addition to the ongoing 2:00pm Sunday class with adults and 10:30am Saturday classes...
With participation in any two classes on the same day by the kids the second class with the adults is only half price for those who can take two hours at once by also taking the adult Black-tie and Wedding Ballroom & Swing classes right after "Red Hot Ballroom" (or any second class in the same day, including Salsa, Brazilian Samba, Texas Two Step, Swing, etc). They'll be able to progress a lot faster that way in the other Ballroom and Latin dances (though my hope is that the kids will hold back their talents a little and not deliberately embarrass the adults...at least pretend like you're having trouble once in awhile, even wen you're not...).

Nobody asked for my opinion...BUT...

(12) The condescending and discriminatory remarks by the Chairman of the joint Chiefs of Staff, General Peter Pace are not only unquestionably inappropriate for someone in his position considering the separation of Church and State in this country. but also damaging to the morale and productivity of the thousands of gay and lesbian service members, an estimated 65,000 to be exact, who are both presently in or are planning to serve in the United States Armed Forces.....

...But then that is just my opinion....
