One of the worst parts about being an LGBT youth is the isolation one can feel – typically, that no one else is like you, you are alone in hostile territory, and there is nothing ahead of you but more of the same. Knowing that there is a proud community of like-minded individuals that are warm and welcoming might be the thread that helps a struggling teenager hang on.

The same-sex partner dance community is that community! We wanted to let others know that we will include them, that they are welcome among us, and that we embrace, celebrate and honor each individual.

We are proof that you are not alone, that yes, it does indeed get better.

Hi, everyone,

This is coming up at the end of the month and there's a group discount for 10 or more. I've contacted organizer Gene LePeletier to determine how much it is ($35 for the evening grand Ball as opposed to $40 and $10 for the matinee as opposed to $15 per person).

The entry for anyone wishing to compete is $75 per person and imcludes unlimited entries in as amny dances as one cares to enter and with as mnay partners. This ALSO INCLUDES ADMISSION TO THE BALLROOM so a great deal if you care to get your feet wet 'Out On The Dance Floor! (www.OutOnTheDanceFloor.com).

Please let me know if you have that day available and if you're interested in going so I can get the names to him and determine if we have enough for the discount. It would be great to have a DC/Va contingent to attend en masse this year. After all, the next Gay Games will be very close in 2014 (Cleveland, Ohio) so now is a great time to start working at it for any one or all 3 styles of competition in International Style Ballroom, Country/Western and International Latin. Whether or not one competes, the huge evening Balls are incredible and you'll want to at least be able to dance with lgbt dancers from around the globe. This was one of THE most fun events I've ever attended in '98 at Gay Games, Amsterdam.

In addition, this weekend is the Team DC Fashion Show and Model Search, which is our big annual big fundraiser on Sat from about 7 to 10. DanceSport is one of the sports included for Team DC. This is a really fun event and well worth your time with all of the male models doing their thing (sorry, ladies, it's just the guys at this one but I'm pushing for adding a Ladies' version for next year...so get in that gym, maybe you can ENTER!).

For those who want to compete in any # of dances, the Early Bird Special of $75 per person includes registration fee for unlimited entries in all dances and admission to the Ballroom as a spectator *Formation & Showdance events not included in earlybird special

Entry Forms and Fees must be postmarked by March 1, 2011 for Early Bird Special (Gene has told me that this deadline will be waived if we get them in ASAP. ALSO! VERY IMPORTANT! I just found out that unlike during Gay Games, Newcomers or lower level dancers can dance with more experienced dancers in the newcomer division without the more experienced dancers having to give up their regular more experienced partners. Great news to help those just thinking about competing to get their feet wet. This is similar to pro/am with either pro or higher level partners as long as the pro or more advanced partner isn't being paid to enter the comp with them.  

Every contestant must fill out a Registration Form . One Entry form and accounting form must be filled out for each partnership; payments (check or money order made out to B&L productions) must accompany forms. Deadline for entries: May 15, 2006.

New Sat lgbt Ballroom, Latin and Swing class at 12:45pm preceded by Salsa (Mein) and social Ballroom/Dance-at-Your-Wedding Workshops (Terry) at 11am and beginner and intermediate Country Two Step at noon (2 levels at once with 2 teachers as needed). All classes are $12 drop-in or $95/10-class dance card (less Lambda DanceSport DC discounts). Also on Tuesdays: Salsa at 6:30pm and Social Ballroom, Latin and Swing/Dance-at-Your-Wedding Workshops at 7:15 and on Wednesday: Social Latin dances at 6:45pm and beginner Argentine Tango from 7:30pm - 8:15pm.

Sat Dec 25 and Sat Jan 1 - Annual All-night Holiday Milongas on the evenings of Christmas Day and New Year's Day at the Chevy Chase Ballroom from 9pm-4am (earlier basic Tango for newcomers plus beg and int Salsa and ChaChaCha classes for Tango dancers from 8:30pm-10pm in adjacent studio B). Co-hosted by Hitomi Hyashi, Terry Chasteen and DJ Mark Sakowski. Join us for Mark's GREAT traditional Tango music until midnight with a mix of traditional & Tango nuevo after midnight and one or two tandas of fun non-Tango selections later in the night (beginner class in basic Tango for newcomers at 8:30pm plus mini-classes in adjacent studio for those who don't already dance Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Swing and 'Michael Jackson's Thriller' from 9-10pm during the Christmas Milonga). $12, 1/2 price for non-dancing family, friends and children over 13. The evening includes hot and cold soft drinks, lots of delectable snacks and munchies and our infamous "Desserts a la mode" at midnight!
