Lambda DanceSPORT International is in the process of gaining 501(c)(3) status. Lambda DanceSPORT International is an organization dedicated to the promotion of partnership dancing of all styles for same-gender couples in the LGBT community around the globe. Our objective is three-fold and (1) the first is a very selfish one..."We love to dance...and we want more people in the LGBT community to dance with us". (2) We also believe that when we dance together as same-gender couples, we help to unite the different factions of our own community, (3) as well as dispel many of the negative steriotypes of what some like to believe our relationships are all about...(and especially when we're exceptionally good at what we do!). Gay dancing can be a very non-confrontational and effective form of grass roots gay activism. It's difficult for even the most outspoken and bigoted bystanders to make their typical negative remarks and continue their typical negative opinions when the dancing abilities of the gay and lesbian couples on the floor stand out above the crowd (and especially when we get good at changing leader and follower roles right in the middle of the dance!).

The objective of LambdaDanceSPORT International is to promote partnership dancing for same-gender couples throughout the LGBT community. This might include, among other goals, encouraging more couples to become spectators and/or competitors during the country-wide IAGLCWDC annual and semi-annual C/W events, as well as during the upcoming Gay Games® VII, Chicago, 2006 (In the time remaining, anyone can be prepared to dance in at least the beginner and possibly intermediate levels by 2006 in International Ballroom or Latin, Country/Western or all three), as well as the 1st World OutGames, Rondez-Vous Montreal, 2006 Gay Sport and Cultural Festival, Montreal, Québec, Canada. In addition to promoting partnership dancing of all types within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) community, the purpose of Lambda DanceSport is to also integrate our dancing with the non-LGBT community, which could be one of the most powerful methods of grass roots gay activism available to us. The mission statement and objectives of Lambda DanceSPORT International follow :

The opinion is that the more different styles of dance are included, the more people over-all will get involved and ultimately benefit from this all-too-often overlooked sport and art form in the LGBT community.

Special Notice:

On Saturday, September 6th, 2003:

If you missed the September 6th, 2003 ASGRA Atlantic Stampede Rodeo C/W hoedown that took place at The Hyatt Regency on Capital Hill, you "REALLY MISSED IT"! Russell Halley and Jorge Guzman, who have since won numerous titles in International Latin dance as a same-gender couple will definitely perform again and we will do our best to keep you informed,

The C/W dance events of the 2003 Atlantic Stampede took place at the Hyatt Regency on Capital Hill and also included incredibly well-done performances by Washington DC's "DC Cowboys", New York's "Manhattan Prairie Dogs", in addition to New York's incredibly talented Latin dance team, Russell Halley and Jorge Guzman (Gold Medalists in men's International Latin during Gay Games® VI, Sydney, 2002; who have placed at or near the top of every competition they've attended since, including the Dutch Open Championships, the Euro Games in Copenhagen (where they were 2nd in 2004), the Pink Jukebox Trophy in London, the L.U.S.T.-Cup in Munich [Gold Medalists] and the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf [Gold Medalists]).
Russell and Jorge currently hold the highest international ranking for an American same-gender couple in International Latin. We applaud their incredible energy, talent and perseverance in promoting Gay DanceSport in International Ballroom & Latin to both the LGBT community and the non-LGBT community around the globe. Visit the special Gallery of Photos of Russell Halley and Jorge Guzman on this web site, many photos of which were taken as they competed as the only same-gender couple among 26 mixed-gender couples in the Pre-championship division of the 2004 MIT Open DanceSport Championships (where they won 2nd place out of 26 entries!).

And when you're not OUT dancing...
Join us each Sunday evening for

at the Chevy Chase Ballroom & DanceSport Center

For those who were able to watch the 3-dance performance of Russel Halley and Jorge Gutzman of New York at the Atlantic Stampede, these are some of the dances that we'll be teaching (on a more beginner level, of course) during Lambda DanceSPORT Sundays in Washington DC, including Gay Games® and Social Ballroom, Latin, Swing & Two Step classes, plus dancing and practice at the Chevy Chase Ballroom. Absolutely anyone should be able to compete in either the beginner or intermediate levels of International Ballroom & Latin or Country/Western in Gay Games® or the 1st World OUTgames, Montreal by 2006 or dance in a local exhibition or competition in C/W, Ballroom, Latin or Swing by next year. The cost for the event is minimal to barely cover the studio space, which is made possible by the returns from Terry & Abdul's Sunday Salsa & Latin Social . The objective is not to make a profit, but to give more people in the LGBT community the opportunity to learn and become more comfortable with the Ballroom, Latin, Swing and Country/Western dances in a non-smoking and alcohol-free social environment.
