Private Coaching...

Private coaching is a great way to supplement your classes by being able to fine-tune some of the ideas, foot patterns and technique learned in the group environment. Some students schedule private coaching on a weekly basis, especially when looking at future amateur or pro/am competition or who just feel they want to progress faster than class-work alone will allow. Others schedule private coaching at unplanned intervals, whenever questions or technique concerns come up which are more detailed than the class environmaent may cover.

Private coaching is also a great way to completely choreograph and fine-tune upcoming performances, such as the "Honor Dance" at your wedding or for planned exhibitions during future dance-related events. Either way, private coaching is a terrific means of speeding up the improvement of your dancing over time. Terry's fee for private coaching is $55.00 per 45 to 50-minute session, which is highly competitive for one of the very few in this industry with over 30 years of teaching experience in literally every popular social dance available. The amount remains the same whether one or two people participate and for more than two people, the hourly fee increases by $10.00 per person.

Special instruction is also available for teaching at wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah receptions and other social/corporate events as a great way to get all of your guests who are normally hesitant about their dancing out onto the dance floor. Though more costly due to travel time away from the studio, as well as the fact that such events are usually held during a teacher's "Prime Time" on the weekends, this can be a way to insure that your event is one of the most enjoyed evenings ever by everyone attending. We will not only teach a mini-class in either one or several dances requested by the hosts, but we get people up and dancing and switching partners and really enjoying this special event where many would normally just sit and watch. It's a great way to ensure that the evening will be long remembered by all.

Costs for such productions include $95.00 per hour plus the same for estimated travel time both to and from the event, plus possible discounts for repeat or extra long events. The higher rates are a result of the increased difficulty of pre-planning and moving all necessary needed items to and from the location, and once again, the fact that most such events are held during a teacher's weekend and evening "Prime Time" when they, themselves are highly sought after for other events or when they can be out "partying" on their own (which we like to do... A LOT!). We have had a lot of past experience and success with all of these situations in the past and if Terry isn't available, himself for such an occasion, we can definitely find a highly qualified teacher who is. Though higher than the normal session rate at the studio, the cost per person is a fraction of the normal studio rate and can be one of the best means available to guarantee the ultimate in your dance party's success.

Cancellations require a minimum of 24 and preferably 48 hours advance notice so that other students may be able to fill in the time slot. Please do not make an appointment if there is a likelihood that it will have to be canceled. Rather wait until your appointment time is firmly attainable. Some like to make appointments just for the sake of reserving the time and then cancel just before the deadline for very little reason. This is unfair to the teacher, as well as to any other students wanting to get in before their wedding or dance event takes place. Fees are payable for any cancellations made less than 24 hours from the time of the appointment or coaching will be discontinued, unless of course it's due to a legitimate unavoidable situation such as dangerous weather or ice conditions, genuinely unavoidable circumstances, etc.
We regret having to be so strict in this regard, but without it, experience shows that too many seem to think that cancellations are acceptable without being made responsible; as long as they're not the ones losing the teaching time and resulting income. As much as we continue to love our jobs, to us this is still a business and not just something that we do for our own entertainment. Consequently we must expect responsibility on the part of everyone if we're going to continue being able to offer top level professional coaching to our students.
