(All of our social events, which always include some type of training for beginners, are a GREAT way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special events at no extra cost to you! We'll have several teachers available throughout the night to help get ALL of your family and friends dancing.

THE COMPLETE WEEKLY SUNDAY SCHEDULE INCLUDES:

2:00pm - 3:00pm Beginner "Red Hot Ballroom" Ballroom, Latin & Swing dancing for grade-school, high-school & middle-school aged kids to learn the dances and routine choreography to the dance music of the latest musical phenomenon of the Silver Screen, "Dreamgirls" and "HAIRSPRAY". (This class will focus on material for a future performance Showcase at the Chevy Chase Ballroom plus at other local charitable events for those who may care to participate [Showcase participation is not required to take the class]). Purchase of a 10-class dance card at $75.00 required per child to assure consistency of participation.

2:00pm - 3:00pm Beginner Ballroom, Latin & Swing dancing for parents and other adults plus "Red Hot Ballroom" grade-school and high-school & middle-school aged kids (will include other Ballroom, Latin, Swing, Salsa and Disco/Hustle dances that are not necessarily part of the "Dreamgirls" Soundtrack).

2:00pm - 3:00pm Beginner drop-in Black-tie and Wedding Social Ballroom, Latin, Swing &/or Dsico/Hustle taught by Terry Chasteen.

3:00pm - 4:00pm Drop-in beginner and intermediate/advanced Country / Western Two Step and/or Swing patterns and technique (2 teachers at once) taught by Terry & assisted by Mein. (additional C/W Two Step and/or Waltz is also available in 2 levels on Saturday afternoons at 12:30pm). We will eventually teach you some HOT! competition level Texas Two Step, Country Waltz and clogging patterns that you won't see in DC unless the pro's come to town!

Every Sunday - Terry Chasteen's infamous 150 mile-an-hour, knock-down, drag-out, including-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink Cha Cha Cha patterns "To-Die-For" in the Salsa clubs. New Drop-in Beg and Intermediate to Advanced International and American style Cha Cha during our weekly "Sunday Salsa & Rueda, Brazilian Samba and Argentine Tango Dance Parties & classes". This class will eventually Include 2 teachers in beginner and intermediate levels as needed. ($12.00 per person or FREE for anyone taking the earlier Brazilian Samba or Salsa classes or the 6:00pm Argentine Tango or intermediate Casino Rueda classes)

6:00pm - 7:00pm Brazilian Dance Mix classes (MUST RSVP)- Lambada, Forro and Axe at 4pm which will gradually change over time to include Samba Rock, Brazilian Bolero, Pagode, Vanerao, etc...prepare for the monthly Chevy Chase Ballroom "Carnival Dance-&-Learn Parties" with a Samba demonstration performance and dancing.

6:00pm - 7:15pm Weekly Drop-in beginner & intermediate Argentine Tango followed by an Argentine Tango Milonga in studio A (2 levels of Tango at once taught by 2 teachers at the same time).


7:15pm - 11:30pm teacher-assisted Salsa, Salsa Rueda and Argentine Tango dancing during the Sunday Salsa, Tango, Brazilian Samba and Rueda Social dance party. Open dancing in studio "B" to the "BEST" Salsa, Rueda and Latin music and in studio "A" to the Best in Argentine Tango. FREE to anyone taking a Sunday class or $7.00 for dancing only.

ADMISSION: $12.00 for the first Sunday class, $19.00 for two Sunday classes before 5:00pm, $25.00 for 3 classes and $30.00 for 4 Sunday classes before 5:00pm. The Salsa Rueda classes are separately priced at $12.00, which includes all 3 levels for those who qualify.

Admission fee for beginner/intermediate Argentine Tango (two levels at once) is $15.00 from 6-7:30pm followed by dancing in studio "A" until 11:30pm (or you may use Terry's 10-class dance card for Tango at $95.00, which is good toward any of Terry, Danielle and Mein's Drop-in Chevy Chase Ballroom classes throughout the week or weekend).

7:30pm - 10:00pm teacher-assisted Salsa, Salsa Rueda and Argentine Tango dancing in 2 separate studios at once during the Sunday Salsa Social dance party. Open dancing in studio B to the "BEST" Salsa and Latin music plus monthly scheduled performances by some of Metropolitan Washington's top Salsa and Rueda dance companies and Argentine Tango dancing in studio B.

ADMISSION: $12.00 for the first class, $19.00 for two Sunday classes before 5:00pm, $25.00 for 3 classes and $30.00 for 4 Sunday classes before 5:00pm. The Salsa Rueda classes, which are $12.00 for all 3 qualifying levels and beginner/intermediate Argentine Tango, which is $15.00 from 6-7:30pm.

$95.00 per 10-class dance card good toward any of Terry Chasteen's own classes at the Chevy Chase Ballroom. $10.00 Full-time students with ID (less online discounts), $12.00 for the dance party only from 7:30 until 10:00 pm for those not taking the classes (so come to a class...it doesn't cost any you anything extra).

Receive a $2.00 discount on the first class taken or the dance party after 7:30pm with a copy of this notice or a web site or email notice from your favorite non-profit, dance team, or organization for 10 or more attending. That association will also then receive 25% of the admission toward their fundraising in exchange for promoting the event if the email notice is sent or published on their web site. Paid admission to any of terry's Sunday classes includes the open dancing and/or performances after 7:30pm.

Ernesto Reyes' SAOCO DC Rueda Dance Group

Rueda de Casino (commonly known as Salsa Rueda) is a Cuban Street dance originally done in the 50's in Cuba but became increasingly popular in the 90's in the U.S. Dance historians suggest that Rueda originated as a dance done primarily among poor, black Cubans who could not afford to belong to the social clubs (a.k.a. casinos) found in the cities. More affluent Cubans adopted the dance and moved the dance form into the social clubs where it became known as Rueda de Casino. The dance was seldom done outside of Cuba until the poorer African-Cubans (who continue to be the primary innovators of the dance) were able to migrate abroad. The emergence of Rueda outside of Cuba began in Miami but has now spread all over the U.S.

Rueda is composed of the same footwork done in Salsa but couples dance in a round (Rueda is Spanish for wheel). Couples initially assemble in a circle and the Rueda leader or "caller" yells out patterns. One of the unique features of Rueda is that couples perform synchronized patterns and change partners in response to the caller's instruction—much like what is done in square dancing- but funky, spicy and hot!
